5 Lifestyle Hacks

Are you looking for something quick and easy, with awesome results?

Since our Beauty Hacks post, I’ve been thinking of some fun new DIY ideas that’ll make life just that much easier! There are so many hacks out there to try, but the real question is: do they work? I’ve tried and tested all these hacks so that you don’t have to. These are the top tips or DIY shortcuts that’ll brighten your day (and your wardrobe-hello number five). Here are your fun five lifestyle hacks:

  1. Shine Bright Like a Diamond:

Have you ever looked at your jewelry box and realised that your bling isn’t looking so sparkly and fresh? Well here’s the perfect jewelry hack for you (given to us by a Jeweler): grab a small mug or cup, fill it with boiling hot water and then add a drop or two of dishwashing liquid. Pop your piece/s of jewelry into the cup and let it soak for 10-15 minutes. Take an old toothbrush and dip it into your magic mixture. Now use it to clean your jewels and make them shine. Finally, rinse your bling under cool water and dry with a cloth. Viola, sparkles, and sass on a budget.

  1. Can you say: NAILED IT?!

Have you ever had to shake the hand of someone important and (GASP) your nails are chipped? There’s a cost-effective solution to that (drumroll please!) stick on nails! I have been using stick-on nails for the last four years consecutively. The average gel mani and tips costs between R350-R400 and they’ll last three-four weeks. Stick on nails range from R49-R299 (at Clicks or Dischem) and you get two sets in each purchase. All you’ll need is a file and buff. The nails come with glue and they’ll last you between 1-2 weeks. The best part is that when they come off, your natural nails feel healthy and strong. The only thing you have to worry about it how to manage all the compliments you’ll get for your stylin’ hands.

  1. Getting the Boot…

It’s so frustrating when you own a pair of stunning knee-high or mid-calf boots and when it comes time to wear them, they’re all creased from being shoved into the back of your cupboard with no support. Solution? Pool noodles. Yup, you heard me right. Buy a pool noodle and measure it against your boot; now cut accordingly. Slip the modified noodle into each boot and they’ll stay upright and in perfect condition until it’s time to give them a night on the town. After all, these boots were made for walkin’…

  1. Footsie, Footsie?

Winter equals cracked heels and dry feet, no thanks! I found a great foot scrub you can use to ensure that your feet feel pampered, pretty and winter-ready all season long. Mix ¼ cup of brown sugar, ¼ cup of olive oil and ¼ cup of flower petals all together in a bowl - be sure to break the petals to release their oils and fragrance. Now you’ll rub the scrub onto your, prewashed and wet, feet in a circular motion. It works as an exfoliator and hydrator, so it’s a win-win. Any leftover product can be stored in a refrigerator for up to a week. For more DIY foot scrub ideas check out: https://www.rd.com/health/beauty/homemade-foot-scrub-recipes/

5.Heel-ing powers:

Do you have a pair of heels that you love, but they’re beginning to look a bit tired or boring? Well, why not pimp those pumps? You could use nail varnish to paint the soul of your shoes, Christian Louboutin style. You could also buy a fab new fabric and refurbish your heels with some colour and fabric glue. Lastly, you could pimp your pumps by gluing some sparkles or jewels to the front of your shoe. The best part? New heels that you don’t have to break in!
